Scenes from The Trouble with Romance dir. by Gene Rhee (Feature Romantic Comedy, 10 min)

In this atypical comedy about sex and relationship, a quartet of vignettes focus on a disparate group of Angelenos exploring the challenges and heartaches that come with falling and staying in love. Set to release theatrically in February 2009, Warner Bros. has also acquired distribution rights to World Premiere the movie nationwide via On Demand/PPV a few weeks prior to the film’s theatrical release as part of a major promotional tie-in with Valentines Day. The film’s sales rep is David Garber, who sold the Charlize Theron indie classic MONSTER and the hit romantic comedy MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING.

Previously, Gene Rhee directed, wrote and produced THE QUEST FOR LENGTH, a comedic mockumentary that was an Official Selection of the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, received the New Visions Director Award from Visual Communications, was honored by the American Cinematheque as one of the year’s best comedy shorts, and in 2006 was selected as one of the Top 5 Films out of thousands by NBC for the network’s Comedy Short Cuts showcase.

As a screenwriter, Gene has sold or optioned projects to DreamWorksSKG, pop icon Madonna’s Maverick Films, and Hallmark Entertainment among others. He is currently developing a television pilot with director Justin Lin (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT and FAST & FURIOUS 4).

Gene graduated at the top of his class with an M.F.A. from U.S.C. film school’s renowned Peter Stark Program. He began his film career working at 20th Century Fox in the physical production department, and also worked briefly as a Story Editor for Mace Neufeld (producer of THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, PATRIOT GAMES, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER). Gene was also a K.O.F.I.C. Filmmaker Development Lab Fellow and is an alum of IFP’s Emerging Narratives Program.

Gene received his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
